Christmas Barbecue Tips

Christmas Barbecue TipsChristmas and Barbecues aren't two words you often see together outside Australia, the very notion seems optimistic at best in the UK. Don't be too sure its a bad idea though, 7 out of the last 10 Christmases had daytime and evening temperatures easily suited to outdoor parties and barbecues. A white christmas is only likely to happen on the tv, in the real world it's getting warmer and warmer. As a result you have some welcome extra space to use when the barbarian horde of relatives descend on your home.

Here are some tips to help with your barbecue or any other Christmas party:

  1. Get everyone involved, give each person a job to do, even the kids (try holding a few presents back until the evening, it makes them more malleable).

  2. Use your BBQ as a complement to your main cooker, to add some variety the the Christmas meal and to prepare pre and post meal snacks. Click here for some great BBQ appetiser recipes.

  3. Have plenty of soft drinks available and hide most of your booze until after the meal. Empty stomachs and free flowing alcohol make for challenging parties.

  4. Mulled wine can be boiled for a while to remove most, if not all, of the alcohol which boils at a lower temperature than water. (this is not a guaranteed procedure so don't attempt to drive afterwards). A great mulled wine recipe can be found here.

  5. Extend the use of your garden with a patio heater. They can still be bought in time for pre-Christmas delivery. Click here for our full range of patio heaters.

  6. Make sure you have plenty of bread ready for the turkey sandwiches. As turkey can be a bit on the dry side, prepare extra stuffing to make the perfect moist sandwich.

  7. Don't forget to shake your par-boiled potatoes in the pan (once the water has been drained off) to roughen their surface ready for roasting. Just a couple of shakes will do it!

  8. Not everybody eats meat. Make sure that you have a better alternative than 'just the veg.'
A great range of vegetarian recipes can be found here.

  9. Put your household barbecue chef in the mood with some inexpensive BBQ gifts from our BBQ Shop. Click here to go to the shop Christmas gift section.

  10. Check that you have enough gas for your BBQ, your local Calor Gas supplier is unlikely to be open on Christmas day.

Have a great Christmas party.
